Witnessing Sheriff’s transformation from a nearly bald, frail pup into a joyful, healthy, and flourishing dog has been an incredible journey. His foster parent has lovingly provided all the necessary care and believes he is now ready for a permanent, loving home. Sheriff is a lively and affectionate 10-year-old Shiba Inu weighing 40lbs, and he is well-trained in crate use, leash walking, and house manners. Like many Shiba Inus, Sheriff requires a high-quality diet free of grains and poultry to maintain his coat and skin health. His strong prey drive makes him unsuitable for homes with cats, and he tends to not get along with larger dogs, though he has seemed fine with similarly sized dogs outside his home. Since it’s unclear how he would react to sharing his space with other pets, we recommend that he be the only dog in the household. Sheriff hasn’t been tested with very young children but appears to be comfortable with school-aged children who respect his boundaries. He is highly food-motivated and will even brave a bath for a treat, despite his dislike for it. He has mastered commands like ‘sit’ and ‘high five/shake.’ Once he warms up to someone, he enjoys belly rubs and being in the same room, though he’s not one to cuddle. Sheriff is curious by nature, with his most mischievous acts being rummaging through the trash and carpet licking, as observed by his foster. He relishes his outdoor walks and playtime with toys, but above all, he loves his naps. Sheriff is now in search of a forever home where he can be the sole focus and continue to receive the pampering he adores.
